It was lovely to see our new Junior Infants playing outside today. They really enjoyed it. They listened so nicely to their teachers' instructions and followed the guidelines really well. We were very proud! The older children in the school are back to playing with hula-hoops and skipping ropes on yard. It's wonderful to see everyone occupied and busy with constructive activities, getting exercise and fresh air! The behaviour on yard has been super this week - well done everyone! While … [Read more...]
Car-sharing, walking or cycling…
Understandably the car park was extremely busy on Wednesday morning, with our new Junior Infants starting and our neighbours in Gaelscoil Chill Dara having their first day back after the Summer. If there's a possibility for you to car-share, travel on the school bus, share the school run, cycle, walk, scoot or roller-blade to school, it would be a fantastic way to help us reduce congestion in the car park and on the surrounding roads. Of course there are added benefits for you in meeting other … [Read more...]
A great first day back
What a great day! NETNS had a super first day back today. It was great to see everyone - all taller and more grown up! We enjoyed listening to all the new stories and getting to know the new personalities in the school. There is a positive, energised atmosphere around the school this week, long may it last! As the new Junior Infants are starting tomorrow - Yippee! - we are leaving the space at that door completely free for them. So for the next couple of weeks, 4th, 5th and 6th classes … [Read more...]

We will miss you Gerry
What is good news for the new Portlaoise Educate Together National School is bad news for our school. Gerry our senior infants teacher will be leaving our school to take up the post of Principal in Portlaoise. He will be missed a lot. He is a great teacher who loves the Irish language and passed on that love to his students. He helped a lot of children understand lots of different subjects by making them fun. He worked closely with the Student Council helping them organise different … [Read more...]

Old phones for Jack and Jill
Please remember that we are still collecting old phones for The Jack and Jill Children's Foundation , a really worthwhile charity who do tremendous work. See http://www.jackandjill.ie/ for more about this wonderful charity. While we do have Interactive WhiteBoards now, Jack and Jill will still take our phones and will exchange them for other valuable resources for our school such as school sports kits, books and maps. This will save us a huge amount of money which can then be spent on other … [Read more...]

Equality Week
What a success! NETNS had a superb Equality Week. There was such a buzz around the school all week. Lots of children designed their own poster promoting equality. The posters are now displayed outside the 5th and 6th classrooms, along with projects completed by 5th and 6th class. We held debates and brain-storming sessions and, most important of all, welcomed The President of Ireland Mary McAleese to our school to help us celebrate Equality Week. … [Read more...]
